Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic as well as a public speechwriter. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency, a site that features videos and comments discussing the depictions of females in popular media. Anita Sarkeesian was a Canadian and an American feminist media critic. As a public speaker, she's highly sought after and has spoken at TEDxWomen XOXO and United Nations Broadband Working Group. She was interested in the gender issue and feminist movements since a early age. In 2009, while in university she started the Feminist Frequency site. It was a girl who wanted to create a series of web videos which would explore gender roles in video games. In the end, she ended up being victimized by online harassment. The woman was not stopped from the attack, and in fact it only reinforced her drive to become a media critic and feminist. In recognition of the many achievements she's made for feminism, she is the recipient of numerous awards.
