
DeWitt first appeared on stage when she was 13 years old. DeWitt earned her degree from Ball State University with a Bachelor's of Arts. The director recommended that she apply to UCLA's Department of Theater MFA program. There she received the Master of Fine Arts Fellowship in addition to the Clifton Webb Scholarship. While attending UCLA she was employed as a secretary up to her television debut on the show's episode Baretta.Contrary to the rumor that she was mentored by actor Abe Vigoda, Dewitt has claimed that they have did not meet. DeWitt's character as Janet Wood in Three's Company's 1977-1984 period is among her most well-known. She was chosen to play Janet in the pilot episode of the show and later selected. Janet also appeared in an episode of the show The Ropers in the year 1979. After Three's Company ended in 1984, DeWitt appeared in an episode of Finder of Lost Loves in 1984 after which she quit acting for a few years. In June of 1991, she resumed acting by playing a part in Noises Off at Michigan's Cherry County Playhouse. [1] Later she appeared on the TV comedy Spring Fling! A character who was based on her, voiced by another actress, was featured in a 1997 episode on Pinky and the Brain. The actress was also featured in an episode of Cybill. A few of her 2000s TV works included Hope Island and The Nick at Nite Holiday Special as and Call of the Wild.
